The second-hand marketplace Members Share Displeasure Regarding Size Updates

Vinted users have been reacting angrily following a change that caused products showing incorrect sizing.

This online marketplace has altered its size classifications for female and kids' apparel without notifying every member regarding the update.

Online Platforms Backlash

Countless users and merchants have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display an altered size classification compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.

Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches other platforms.

It has advised users to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually when needed, resulting in member annoyance.

Size Classification Changes

Before the change, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, such as S/8 or M/10.

The new system has a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.

In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.

User Experiences

Frankie Bridger, who creates plus-size fashion videos, explained the modification "makes transactions more difficult".

"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.

A different member, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were displaying on the service as measurements 20-22.

"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she said.

Necessary Adjustments

A different user, located in England, explained she became annoyed by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".

"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she stated.

Service Background

The app has more than 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.

It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.

This represents another occasion where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
